Budget Planning for Post-Award Success
EDS Seminar Proposal Prep Series. Rebecca Stossmeister & Ted DeMaria discuss Budget Planning for Post-Award Success
Abstract: The focus for this session is building a complete and compliant budget for a sponsored research award that positions your project for success at the post-award stage. We’ll discuss guidelines for estimating project costs, including an overview of federal cost principles, and we will walk through standard cost estimates for specific line items. We will also talk through strategies for ensuring a proposed budget adequately supports the work planned for the project and provide some recommendations for working within funding limits and responding to budget reduction requests from sponsors.
Speaker Bios:
Rebecca Stossmeister began working in research administration at CU Boulder in 2013; she joined CIRES in 2017 and has since supported several research groups, including the North Central Climate Adaptation Science Center (NC CASC), Western Water Assessment, and Earth Lab. Rebecca is currently the finance manager for the Environmental Data Science Innovation & Impact Lab (ESIIL) and the Global Systems Laboratory (GSL) on the CIESRDS Cooperative Agreement. Rebecca has research administration experience across the award lifecycle and has worked at both the central office and departmental levels. In her real (nonwork) life, Rebecca has a fledgling rock band, a delightful/demonic mutt named Mia, a nearly pathological need for cookies at breakfast-time, and one of these days she will definitely probably get all those overdue books returned to the library.
Ted DeMaria is the CIRES Proposals Director. Ted has been at CIRES since he was an undergraduate student, a very very long time ago, and Ted’s bio is nowhere near as fun and exciting as Rebecca’s.
