Environmental Music - an excursion in data sonification
EDS Seminar Speaker Series. Environmental Music - an excursion in data sonification
Abstract: What is data sonification, and how can it be used as part of rich collaborations between scientist and musicians? Environmental data is complex, and by representing it as sound we access the expansive and sensitive musical brain functions to identify patterns. At the same time, the environment and data about it represents a profound source of natural beauty. This seminar will highlight a sonification composition project by Glenda Luck, Tyler Grimes, Leo Ma and Elsa Culler, created as part of the Brain Body Music class taught by De. Grace Leslie.
Speaker Bio: Elsa Culler is an Environmental Data Science instructor and curriculum developer at Earth Lab and ESIIL, and an amateur musician. Glenda Luck is a composer studying at CU Boulder.
