Danielle Losos is a graduate student in the Department of Geography, advised by Dr. Jennifer Balch, and a research assistant at Earth Lab. Danielle employs satellite remote sensing to observe rapid disturbance caused by wildland fire, including active fire spread and post-fire impacts to vegetated ecosystems.

Danielle has a B.S. in Environmental Science from Yale University. Prior to CU, Danielle worked as a researcher and data scientist for three years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her prior research explored near real-time carbon and water cycle modeling from geostationary satellites. She also engineered a tool designed to help weather forecasters monitor the burn severity of current fires to assess post-fire risks like debris flows. In addition, Danielle brings experience in operational satellite products from working for the NOAA GOES-R satellite program at NASA Goddard.

Outside of work, Danielle spends her time baking elaborate recipes or hiking, biking, and rock climbing around Boulder.
