Melissa received her B.S. in physics as well as her M.S. and Ph.D. (2016) in atmospheric sciences from the University of Utah. The topic of her dissertation was wintertime airborne particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution and gastrointestinal disease in Utah. Her current work focuses on respiratory and cardiovascular health effects of wildfire smoke. The goal of the current study is to determine if there are differential health effects between exposure to wildfire smoke versus exposure to smoke from prescribed fires.
