My name is Madison Phelps. I come from the Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota Oyate tribe, located in South Dakota. I’m completing a pre-engineering program at Oglala Lakota College. In the Fall of 2022, I will be transferring to South Dakota School of Mines and Technology to pursue a BA in civil engineering with an emphasis in environmental engineering. I was drawn to the HDR/EDSC internship because I believe this program allows you to explore a unique skill set that can be extremely useful in my high education career. This summer I’m hoping to become more confident using data science skills by learning how to apply these skills in a group setting and independently. When I’m done with school, I would like to travel for a few months. After my travels are done, I’d like to get more experience with sustainable energy and hopefully apply that knowledge on my reservation by implementing sustainable infrastructure. For fun, I absolutely love being outdoors and going on adventures, especially if it involves swimming. I also enjoy attending music events. An interesting thing about me is that I’m probably too obsessed with my dogs. And I love watching low quality tv shows in my free time.
