Tuff Talks Cloud Grazing: Harvesting Data with Minimal Downloads

EDS Seminar Speaker Series. Tuff Talks Cloud Grazing: Harvesting Data with Minimal Downloads

Title: Tuff Talks Cloud Grazing: Harvesting Data with Minimal Downloads
Speaker: Dr. Ty Tuff, Environmental Data Science Innovation and Inclusion Lab (ESIIL)

Abstract:
Welcome to a workshop edition of our ESIIL Environmental Data Science Seminar Series, a unique initiative designed to continually foster and update the skills of our community in ESIIL and Earth Lab. In this interactive R workshop, we will explore the effective management and interpretation of complex and large-scale environmental datasets. Delving into the power of cloud-optimized formats and virtual file systems, we will specifically focus on the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library's (GDAL) Virtual File Systems and its practical application in data science. Additionally, we'll explore 'cft,' an innovative R package developed by Earth Lab to streamline the download of climate futures data. This hands-on workshop underscores the value of cloud-optimized data formats in driving efficiency and sustainability in data handling practices, offering participants the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios.
